A. L. Vijay, credited by his mononym Vijay, is an Indian film director who predominantly works in the Tamil film industry. He is a disciple of the National Award winning film director, producer, and screenwriter Priyadarshan. Vijay has directed many films, out of which the notable ones are Kireedam, Deiva Thirumagal, Thaandavam, and the critically acclaimed Madrasapattinam.

Prior to venturing into film direction, A.L. Vijay worked with a Mumbai-based company called Venus Production and was a very successful advertisement filmmaker. He has directed more than 100 ad films and his most popular ad is the one, which he directed for Sate Bank of India. The ad won him the Best Corporate Award at the CNBC Awards in 2009.

A.L. Vijay claims that with respect to the art of story-telling he is highly influenced by the works of stalwart film director Priyadarshan, maverick ad maker Prahlad Kakkar and Babu Shankar.

A.L. Vijay likes to work with the same crew for all his movies including Nirav Shah (cinematographer), G.V. Prakash Kumar (music director), Selva Kumar (production designer) and Anthony (editor).
