Making his acting debut as Gary McCready on the ITV crime drama series DCI Banks (2010-2016), Charlie Heaton is an English actor and musician, best known for portraying Jonathan Byers in the Netflix supernatural drama series Stranger Things (2016-s ). Before getting into acting, Heaton was a drummer with the noise-rock band Comanechi. After making his acting debut, the same year Heaton also appeared in TV episodes of British crime drama series Vera (2011- ) and the medical drama series Casualty (1986- ). Heaton made his silver screen debut in 2015 with the drama, Urban & the Shed Crew. Since then he has acted in the psychological thriller Shut In (2016), alongside Naomi Watts and Oliver Platt, and the Sundance Jury Award winning drama As You Are (2016). But it was Heaton's role as Jonathan Byers, the introverted but brave elder brother of Will Byers, on the worldwide hit Netflix sci-fi show, Stranger Things, that put him firmly on the acting map.
On the personal front, Heaton was in a relationship with his bandmate from Comanechi, Akiko Matsuura. He also has a love child named Archie with her. After they broke up, the kid stays with his mother in London. Currently, Heaton is known to date his co-star from Stranger Things, Natalia Dyer.
Heaton's most recent work includes the horror thriller, Marrowbone (2017). The movie directed by Sergio G. Sanchez also stars George MacKay, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Mia Goth. He won the Screen Actors Guild Award in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category, along with his co-stars for the show. In 2019 Heaton will be seen as Samuel Guthrie/Cannonball in director Josh Boone's New Mutants.
