The Charlie Chaplin of the Sri Lankan entertainment industry, Don Eardley Nihal Ferdinando is popularly known by his screen name Don Guy. As the comedian could not speak for the first six years of his life, his parents believed that he would remain mute. However, one day when his father made a sound from his gun, Ferdinando uttered the word Guy. Later, he went on to give several Mime performances during his school days.
In 1966, Guy gave his maiden performance at the Avurudu Comedy Festival, which was attended by the greats of Sri Lankan industry. One such eminent personality was actor Tony Ranasinghe, who he admired. Much to his excitement, Guy went on to receive a certificate from Tony Ranasinghe at the festival.
Guy made his debut as a theatre actor with Tennyson Cooray's Apaya, essaying the lead role along with Cooray. He made his feature debut with the movie Indunila directed by Kingsley Rajapakse. He has also written, directed and produced the telefilm Don Guy which was telecasted on the Rupavahini network. In 2017, Guy appeared in the movie Appata Siri directed by Lal Priyadeva.A
