Francis Lawrence is an American director and producer who was born in Vienna, Austria. He started his career as an assistant to director Allan Moyle on the film Pump Up the Volume (1993). Francis graduated with in film production from Loyola Marymount University Film School and went on to direct music videos for artists like Rihanna, Britney Spears, Green Day, Jay-Z, Aerosmith, Janet Jackson, Shakira, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez. His work received substantial recognition in the industry for being original and imaginative. Francis made his film debut with Constantine (2005), which was based on the famed DC series, Hellblazer. He followed it up with box office successes like I Am Legend (2007) and Water for Elephants (2011). In 2011, Lawrence won a Grammy Award for directing the music video of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. Apart from films and music videos, Lawrence has also directed several episodes of television shows like Kings and Touch. He gained international fame after directing the screen adaption of the novel, The Hunger Games (2012) starring Jennifer Lawrence. Francis followed it up with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013). His 2018 release includes Red Sparrow.
