A Sri Lankan film actor and director, Gamini Fonseka was considered as the King of Sri Lankan cinema history. He has featured in mainly lead roles, and also as supporting characters in several movies, the award-winning ones being Gamperaliya, Deewarayo, Sorungeth Soru, Sarungale, Yuganthaya, and Sagarayak Mada. His directorial ventures include Uthumaneni (1980), Ra Manamali (1981), Koti Waligaya (1986), Anthima Raya (1998), whereas Sagarayak Mada (1981) won him the Sarasaviya Best Director Award. He had a successful political career too. He was the Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Sri Lanka and was also appointed as the Governor of the former North-East Province.
