Born on 6 May 1961, George T. Clooney is an American actor, director, producer, and activist, who has received multiple Golden Globe and Academy Awards. Clooneys breakthrough act was his role as Dr. Doug Ross in the medical drama ER from 1994 to 1999, for which he received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations. This show shot up to the #1 spot on primetime ratings, Clooneys womanizing character and ability to charm the audience being huge contributing factors.

After his ravishing performance on ER, he was offered bigger roles in films such as From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) and Three Kings (1999). The actor has since then directed, produced, and acted in several hit movies including Argo (2012), The Ides of March (2011), The Descendants (2011), Michael Clayton (2009), and Syriana (2005).In the 2000s, he was included in Times annual Times 100 Most Influential People in the World list.

EARLY LIFE
Clooney was born to Councilwoman Nina Bruce, and former anchorman and game show host Nick Clooney. He was raised in Lexington, Kentucky and is of Irish, German and English ancestry. Although he was later quoted saying that he wasnt sure of his beliefs in God or religion, he was raised a strict Roman Catholic. In middle school, Clooney developed Bell's palsy, a condition that partially paralyzes the face. The malady fortunately went away within a year.

Clooney was an enthusiastic basketball and baseball player and tried to go professional in 1977. He was set to play for the Cincinnati Reds but couldnt make it past the first cuts and was eventually not offered a contract. Having attended Northern Kentucky University, majoring in broadcast journalism and the University of Cincinnati for a brief span later on, Clooney has not graduated from either. During his college days he was known for making money by selling womens shoes, insurance, working construction and cutting tobacco.

PERSONAL LIFE
Clooney is known to have been in a lot of relationships over time. He first marriage was to Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993. In 2014, he got married to British-Lebanese human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin. The couple adopted a rescue dog, a basset hound they named Millie, in 2015.

After marrying Amal Alamuddin the couple bought a house on an island in the river Thames for a whooping cost of around 10 million pounds.

TV Career
Clooneys first ever role came in a television mini series Centennial, in 1978. He also made numerous appearances on shows like The Facts of Life, Roseanne, Baby Talk and Bodies of Evidence. His major breakthrough in television came with the television show ER for which he received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and two Golden Globe Nominations for Best Actor Television Series Drama.

Movie Career
As an Actor
George Clooney began appearing in films while he was working on ER and his first major breakthrough was in a horror comedy-crime thriller alongside Quentin Tarantino, called From Dawn Till Dusk (1996), which was directed by Robert Rodriguez. He followed this up with One Fine Day (1996) and the action-thriller The Peacemaker (1997) with Nicole Kidman. He was also cast as Batman in the film Batman and Robin (1997), which fared averagely at the box office. Clooney later on acknowledged that he wasnt fit for the role and termed it a failure. The actor also starred in the box office hit Three Kings (1999) during the last few weeks of his contract with ER.

In the year 2000, Clooney was a part of commercially successful setups such as The Perfect Storm and O Brother, Where Art Thou? In 2001, the actor starred in Ocean's Eleven (2001), a remake of the 1960 movie of the same name, directed by Steven Soderbergh. He played Danny Ocean, a role originated by famed crooner Frank Sinatra. The comedic heist film featurs an all-star cast, which also includes Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Bernie Mac. It proved to be such a successful venture on and off-screen that it spawned two sequels, Ocean's Twelve (2004) and Ocean's Thirteen (2007). In 2005, Clooney starred in Syriana and received the Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Oscars. He appeared in The Good German (2006) the following year. Clooney was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for Michael Clayton a year later.

In 2009, Clooney was a part of the trio with Ewan McGregor and Kevin Spacey in the war parody film The Men Who Stare at Goats. The same year, Clooney starred in the comedy-drama Up in the Air, which was initially given a limited release, and then a wide-released on December 25, 2009. For his performance in the film, which was directed by Jason Reitman, he was nominated for a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA Award, and an Academy Award. In 2011, the actor starred in The Descendants as a husband whose wife is in a comatose condition after an accident. He earned critical praise for his work, and won the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Actor and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor Motion Picture Drama. He was also nominated for the Screen Actors Guild for Best Actor, the BAFTA Award for Best Actor, and the Academy Award for Best Actor.

In 2013, Clooney featured in the high-budget sci-fi drama Gravity. The year 2014 saw the release of The Monuments Men, which Clooney starred in and directed. The following year, Clooney received the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Cecil B. DeMille Award at the annual Golden Globes telecast.

As A Producer
Clooney first produced a TV movie Kilroy in 1999, and in the following year he was credited as an Executive Producer for another TV movie Fail Safe. In 2001, Clooney produced the movie Rock Star, starring Mark Wahlberg, Jennifer Anniston, and Dominic West. He then went on to produce Insomnia in 2002. This movie stars Al Pacino and Robin Williams and was directed by Christopher Nolan.

Clooney also produced the political thriller hit Syriana (2005) which shed light on petroleum politics and the oil industry. It seemed that he had formed a healthy relationship with actor Matt Damon as he featured in a lot of movies produced by Clooney including Syriana, The Informant! (2009), and The Monuments Men (2014) this movie was produced under Clooneys production house, Smoke House Pictures

Clooney has also produced and co-directed the multiple award-winning hit Argo (2012). The political thriller was a huge success and won the Academy Award for Best Picture. He then went on to produce Our Brand is Crisis (2015), which features Sandra Bullock and revolves around the Columbian presidential elections. In 2016, he produced the thriller film Money Monster.

As A Director
The actor made his directorial debut in 2002 with the film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. This film is based on the autobiography of TV producer Chuch Barris. Even though the film didnt do well, it showed Clooney had a promising career ahead of him as a director. His 2005 movie, Good Night and Good Luck won him a nomination for Best Director for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards. He then directed the sports comedy Letterheads (2008) and the political drama Ides of March (2011).

Clooney is the first person in the history of Academy Awards to be nominated for an Oscar in six different categories: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay.
