One of the most popular actors of Sri Lankan cinema, Jagath Chamila is best known for his role as Sami in the movie Samige Kathava for which he won the Best Actor Award at the New York Film Festival in 2013. Jagaths interest in acting was seen during his childhood days when he regularly participated in stage dramas. From 1990 to 1992, he won the Best Actor Award in the Inter School Drama Competition and made his feature film debut with the movie Gurugedara (1992). Not just in films but Jagath has also made his mark in theater and won the Best Actor Award at the State Drama Festival of 2005 for his performance in the play Don Juan. The actor has appeared in films such as Asani Warsha (2005), Sulanga (2005), Gamani (2011), and Prathiroo (2012).
