A renowned theater actor and director, Jim Sarbh made his Bollywood debut with biographical drama Neerja in 2016, playing the role of the main antagonist Khalil opposite Sonam Kapoor.
EARLY LIFE
Born in a Parsi family in Mumbai, Jims mother was a physiotherapist and his father was a master miner, following which he became the Regional Director of P&O Ports South and Middle East Asia. At the age of three, his family and him moved to Australia to only return to Mumbai when he turned eight. Jim completed his schooling at the American School of Bombay following which he moved to Atlanta to pursue an undergraduate degree in psychology from the Emory University in Atlanta.
PERSONAL LIFE
As of 2016, Jim Sarbh is in an alleged relationship with theater and movie actor Kalki Koechlin, and the two have been living-in. However, the two have refuted these rumors and continue to perform together in plays and star in movies together.
THEATER CAREER
Jim started his acting career when he started working as a literary intern at the Alliance Theater while studying in Atlanta. He appeared in a number of plays such as The Show! and The Breakup, Tennis in Nablus, but it was his performance in the 2009 play Ice Glen that won him the Major Supporting Role Metropolitan Atlanta Theatre Award. Upon returning to Mumbai, Jim became actively involved with theater and was seen in plays such as Ok Tata Bye Bye, Limbo, Death of a Salesman, Gates to India Song among many others. Apart from these, he also was a part of Vickram Kapadias The Merchant of Venice, Kalki Koechlins The Living Room, and Rajat Kapoors What is Done, is Done.
MOVIE CAREER
Appearing in an eight-part anthology movie Shuruaat Ka Interval in 2014, Jim was seen making his feature film debut. Post his movie debut, he was seen in a number of short films such as Bubbles and Stars, Khauff, and Fear. However, it was his big Bollywood debut Neerja in 2016 that rose his to prominence in Bollywood. Playing the lead antagonist, Khalil, a hijacker, Jim received immense appreciation for his performance opposite Sonam Kapoor, and was also called the hottest villain of 2016 in Bollywood. Having received critical appreciation for his performance, Jim has a number of releases in 2017 including Konkona Sen Sharmas directorial debut A Death in the Gunj, which screened at various film festivals in 2016, the Kriti Sanon and Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer romantic drama Raabta, a minor role in Kapil Sharmas Firangi and Sanjay Leela Bhansalis period drama Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles.
