Conferred the Padmashri in 2014 for his work in global theatre, actor-director-playwright Mohammad Ali Baigs plays have an accent on visual aesthetics as much as meaningful content, with other performing arts like Indian classical dance, original/folk live music forming an integral part of his storytelling. Various global honours (French Honour in Paris, Award for Global Excellence in Theatre in Toronto, Retrospectives in Istanbul, UK and a World Premiere at Edinburgh Festival Fringe) have been for his kind of theatre that makes history contemporary, fantasy realistic and multiculturalism chic. His productions have been the toast of theatre festivals in India, Canada, France, Pakistan, Turkey and USA, celebrating Indianness at its core. He has been on the juries of international film festivals, Mohammad Ali Baig has presented, produced, directed, written and acted in internationally-feted productions, including south Indias largest original musical production in Hindustani, 'Taramati- The Legend of an Artist', 'His Exalted Highness', 'Raat Phoolon Ki', 'Resham Ki Dor', 'Pankhdiyaan', 'Aaina', 'Dada Saheb Phalke', 'Quli Dilon ka Shahzaada', 'Savaan-e-Hayat', 'Spaces' and '1857: Turrebaz Khan'. He is associated with the 2017 Tamil movie Aruvi directed by Arun Prabhu Purushothaman.
