A Hong Kong-born American actor, martial artist, and cinematographer, Philip Ng is noted for mostly appearing in action roles in Mandarin-language films. After spending most of his youth in Chicago, Illinois, Philip returned to Hong Kong to pursue a career in acting and martial arts choreography. He got his first break on the silver screen when the director duo of Dante Lam and Donnie Yen cast Philip in their movie, The Twins Effects (2003), a Hong Kong film, which was also known as Vampire Effect in the United States. Whilst the movie turned out to be a box-office hit, Philip did not gain any recognition as he had only a minor role.
Following his debut, Philip Ng appeared mostly in small roles in movies like Enter the Phoenix (2004), Marriage with a Fool (2006), Love Is Not All Around (2007), and Bodyguards and Assassins (2009). The actor got his major breakthrough when he was cast to play the role of the legendary martial artist, Bruce Lee in Birth of the Dragon, a fictional account of Bruce Lee. The movie directed by George Nolfi was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2016 and released in the theaters in August 2017. Apart from acting in films, Philip Ng has also worked extensively in TV; having made his debut on the small screen with Made In Hong Kong (2004), he subsequently starred in series like Wing Chun (2007), Elite Brigade (2011), and A Fist Within Four Walls (2016).
