Rahul Bose

Mostly known as the superstar of Indian arthouse cinema, Rahul Bose is an Indian actor, director, screenwriter, philanthropist and rugby player. He is famous for starring in films like Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, Kalpurush, Chameli, The Japanese Wife and English August. The actor is also actively involved with social causes and is the founder of an NGO called The Foundation, an NGO devoted to the removal of discrimination from all walks of life.

EARLY LIFE
Born in Bengaluru, India on 27th July 1967 to Rupen and Kumud Bose, Rahul Bose was raised in Kolkata but later shifted to Mumbai with his family. He is of half Bengali, one-fourth Punjabi, and one-fourth Maharashtrian descent. He has an elder sister , Anuradha, who is married to the owner of Mid-Day Multimedia, Tariq Ansari. As a kid, Rahul was passionate about theater, boxing, and rugby. He also played cricket under Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. The actor completed his schooling from Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai. He is an alumnus of Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics and while in college he participated in a number of international rugby and boxing tournaments. After graduation, Rahul started working in an advertising firm as a copywriter and became quite popular in professional circuits.

MOVIE CAREER
Rahul began his acting career with Rahul D'Cunha's stage play Topsy Turvey and Are There Tigers In The Congo?. After debuting with the English language Indian film The Perfect Murder, Rahul next starred in Dev Benegal's film English, August, an adaptation of the novel by the same name. The movie gained a lot of international critical acclaim and was the first Indian film which was bought by 20th Century Fox. In 1998, he worked with Dev Benegal again in the controversial film Split Wide open. Disputed in India because of the nature of content in the film, Bose went on to win the Silver Screen Award for Best Asian Actor at the 2000 Singapore International Film Festival for his stellar performance in the movie. In 2002, Rahul starred in the critically acclaimed romantic drama Mr. and Mrs. Iyer opposite Konkona Sen Sharma. Directed by Aparna Sen, the film premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival. It won several national and international awards including three National Awards.

He then starred in successful films like Jhankaar beats, Chameli, Mumbai Matinee, 15 Park Avenue, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Kaalpurush, and The Whisperers. His other memorable roles in include Before The Rains (2008), Shaurya (2008) and The Japanese Wife (2010). Bose's portrayal of a homosexual man being harassed in the film I Am (2011) was also widely praised. In 2013, he played the antagonist in the Indian Spy thriller film Vishwaroopam. Directed by South Indian superstar Kamal Haasan, the movie went on to be a blockbuster and Rahul bose garnered positive reviews for his performance.

Bose's 2017 release includes Poorna: Courage Has No Limit, which is directed by him and along with him stars Aditi Inamdar in the lead.
