A Sri Lankan film and TV drama actress, Vasanthi Chathurani made her debut on the silver screen as a teenager with Gehenu Lamai (1978), which was directed by Sumitra Peiris before eventually gaining wide popularity for her role in Ganga Addara (1980) where she starred opposite late Vijaya Kumaratunga. Her stellar performance in the film won her the Best Actress Award at Sarasaviya Awards Festival that year. The actress subsequently starred in films like Biththi Hathara (1982), Aadara Hasuna (1986), Awaragira (1990), Visidela (1997), Sudu Sewaneli (2002), Yahaluvo (2007) and Challenges (2011) and along the way won several awards.

Known to be an extremely natural actress, Chathurani is also a popular personality in the Sri Lankan TV industry. She featured in several TV series including Iti Pahan, Kadulla, Gajaman Puwatha and Giryaya and over the years she has won several Tele Awards including the Sumathi Most Popular Tele Actress Award in 1997 and the Sumathi Best Tele Actress Award in 1998, 2002, and 2002.
