Filmmaker and screenwriter Vijay Chander made his debut with the romantic action-comedy Vaalu (2015), which featured Silambarasan and Hansika Motwani in the lead roles. The 2018 action-thriller Sketch, which starred Vikram and Tamannaah Bhatia, marked Vijay's sophomore outing as a writer-director.
