Standing ovations, monologues and the chance to learn from international theatre pros the West End Theatre Camp will help children take to the stage with renewed zest and confidence. Conducted by three renowned theatre personalities, including the highly acclaimed international director and choreographer Jonny Bowles; associate director, choreographer and acting coach Jon Scott Clark; and musical director and vocal coach David Roper, this programme will enable children to learn the fundamentals of theatre and drama so they can unleash the star within.
By encouraging artistic expression, communication skills and patience, whilst teaching key aspects of theatre such as the dynamics of stage management, stage presence and voice projection, this edutainment programme will help your child to become a budding young theatre buff.
Whether its stepping into the shoes of a narrator, a villain, a hero, a member of the chorus or even a central character, this fun camp is designed to help children hone their performance skills whilst igniting a passion for the arts within them and giving them the tools that they need to become well-rounded individuals.
Jonny Bowles: Having choreographed the international tour of The Sound of Music and directed West End and global stage productions such as Annie, The Bodyguard, Billy Elliot and The West Side Story, and more, Jonny is an international theatre professional with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Having worked with a host of famous actors, producers and stage managers from around the world, Jonny will share his theatre tips, secrets, insights, learnings and more throughout the entire programme. This is the very first theatre programme of this nature in Sri Lanka, that will be conducted by an internationally-acclaimed professional, and it will give children a window into what world-class theatre entails.
Jon Scott Clark: Known as the assistant choreographer and acting coach of Peter Pan Pantomime, as well as the director of The Wind in The Willows, Jon has performed in a range of productions, including Macbeth, Mary Poppins Returns, Mamma Mia International Tour ensemble and more. Having worked among a range of famous theatre productions, Jon will share his expertise on the ins and outs of drama during the camp, focusing on the need to keep acting as natural as possible.
David Roper: David has worked as a performer and musical director in the theatre and on television for the past 30 years. He has sung on Radio and TV shows with Tony Hadley, Mark Ronson, Mark Wynter and albeit briefly with Neil Diamond and Benny Andersson. With 4 Poofs and a Piano he performed on over 250 episodes of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.
He has worked with the award-winning choreographers Anthony Van Last, Billy Deamer Drew McOnie and Karen Bruce and was production musical director for the first national tour of Fame the Musical which then returned to the west end and racked up over 800 performances. David has conducted orchestras for a string of stars including Sir Willard White, Ruthie Henshall, John Barrowman, Dame Edna Everage and Mica Paris.
As a vocal coach and musical director, he has worked at Arts Ed on Tommy, Fame, The Wiz and Sweet Charity. London
This programme will be conducted via two sessions, that will focus on a different aspect of theatre and performance.
