Every year Bollywood meticulously churns out myriads of movies. Some good, some average, some bad, but in the end all are entertaining in their own way. Irrespective of how a movie fares at the box office, there’s a lot of blood, sweat, efforts and man hours that go in the making of a film. Efforts that deserve to be rewarded. That’s where the Filmfare Awards come in.
Presented annually by The Times Group, the Filmfare Awards honour the best of the Hindi film fraternity in both, artistic and technical arenas. Voted for by the public and a committee of experts, The Filmfare Awards is an event that a lot of people wait for with bated breath.
A multitude of exceptional movies have released so far this year. With one more month left before the year ends and movies like Dangal, Dear Zindagi and Befikre set to hit the silver screen, the race for the coveted title of the Best Movie is heating up.
While the latter half of 2016 was dominated by the box office tug of war between Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay, the first half was dominated by the controversy surrounding Udta Punjab. Anurag Kashyap and Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab took a grim look at Punjab’s rampant drug problem. With stellar performances from both Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor, many critics are deeming them as the front runners for the Best Actress and Best Actor awards respectively. With another release in her kitty, and this one being a Gauri Shinde movie, Alia Bhatt is miles ahead of the race when it comes to the Best Actress title.
The critically acclaimed Pink also released this year. Along with getting a lot of positive Bollywood news, it also garnered a lot of complimentary response from the audience. How much of a splash this movie creates in next year’s Filmfare Awards, only time will tell.
This year for the first time ever, Filmfare Awards opened their red carpets to the audience, giving Bollywood lovers a chance to catch the show live. There’s no word out yet if they’ll do the same for next year. But if they do, don’t forget to book your tickets with us.
