The third edition of the Indian Super League kicked off in style on 1 st of October in a star-studded ceremony at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati. 8 teams, 214 players (both national and international) will grace the field over 61 league matches in India's biggest football extravaganza. ISL promises to be one big event which has been changing the face of Football in the sub-continent over the last couple of years.

The opening ceremony of the Indian Super League Season 3 was a glitzy affair. The celebrations were highlighted by Bollywood celebrities like John Abraham, Ranbir Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Jacqueline Fernandez who were joined by MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar representing their respective teams. Also present on the occasion was Olympic Silver medallist PV Sindhu. The chairperson of the league, Nita Ambani gave the shortest speech ever and set the mood with those magic words – Let's Football. A host of independent artists lined up on the stage and formed the Indian map. It was simply just beautiful. The atmosphere of the stadium was also electric as the fans were all geared up, wearing their passion for the game on their sleeves. The stadium was literally lit up with a host of firecrackers and lights. It was a memorable visual extravaganza at the Opening Ceremony. It just can't get better than this!

After this star-studded opening ceremony, the inaugural match of the season was played! And a what match it was. The home team, North East United FC took on Kerala Blaster. Both sides looked evenly matched till the half-time mark. The second half started with both goalkeepers being equally busy. Both the teams started playing aggressively and chances for goals increased. Finally it was in the 55th minute that NorthEast United FC was able to penetrate Kerala’s defence with Japanese forward Katsumi Yusa getting on the end of a vicious ball and scored the goal for his team surpassing the Argentine winger Nicolás Vélez. This goal seized the game for the NEU FC and they ushered in the league with a victory. The Kerala Blasters looked equally good and aggressive throughout the match, but in the end they could not equal the one goal deficit.

All the eight teams are ready for a kill! Football fanatics, get ready to witness some quality Football for the next two and a half months. Common India, Let's Football!
