In its first ever season, the ISL has surpassed all expectation and have fans swooning over this football franchise! At its launch, it was announced that eight teams will be bid for, in an auction that will be held before the end of 2013. There were teams form nine cities that were put up for bidding. Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. Due to postponing of the league however, the bidding took place only in March 2014. After the bidding was done, the winning bidders were announced in April 2014. The Kolkata team was won by Saurav Ganguly who had teamed up with other businessmen for the same and is the most expensive team. Bollywood stars like John Abraham won the Guwahati team along with Shillong Lajong. Ranbir Kapoor won the Mumbai team while Hrithik won the Pune team. The Bangalore franchise was eventually disbanded and replaced by Chennai owned by Abhishek Bachchan and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The teams who have been confirmed as the ones playing in the semi-finals in the Indian Super league Semi Final & Final Matches are Chennayin FC, FC Goa, Kerala Blasters and Atletico De Kolkata. Kerala Blasters forayed into the Indian Super League with an outstanding win against Pune FC! FC Goa coach Zico was quoted saying that qualifying for the ISL semi-finals was one of his biggest achievements in life.

This league has been modeled along the line of the Cricket league called Indian Premiere League where the teas are auctioned and then pitted against one another. In a country where Cricket is next only to religion and is followed by everyone, an exclusive Football league was not expected to hold such water. The fact that people are opening and warming up to another sport is a good sign. The Football league is being supported by Bollywood bigwigs like Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan. This invariably draws a lot of publicity as fans crossover to support the teams of their favorite actors. After getting an understanding about the football ranking and scoreboards, it looks like the ISL is here to stay.
