The musical maestro A.R.Rahman is once again back with the exceptional soundtrack of the latest sports biopic Pele: Birth of a Legend! His musical excellence has not remained untouched after his global recognition in 2009 when he won double oscars for the movie Slumdog Millionaire. This indian prodigy has been included in the long list of 145 scores competing in the Original Score category, while his song ‘Ginga’ from the film will be challenging other 91 songs to be nominated in the Original Song category. The movie traces back the early life and history of the iconic Brazilian footballer Pele, and is co-directed by Jeff and Michael Zimbalist.

This Indian gem started his journey in the music industry by composing scores for documentaries and TV shows before he got his first movie break “Roja“ in 1992. He got his first international break with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Broadway musical “Bombay Dreams“ which won him immense fame. He also composed for the stage adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's “Lord Of The Rings“ that premiered in Canada in 2006 and in London in 2007. His latest upcoming Hindi films include names like Ok Jaanu, Sachin: A Billion Dreams and Rajinikanth & Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0.

In 2009, Rahman was being awarded the Academy Award for the Best Original score of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and also for the Best Original song ‘Jai Ho’ from the same film. The track had lyrics from Gulzar and the film starred the famous Indian actor Anil Kapoor.. After this spectacular success, Rahman’s score for Danny Boyle’s film ‘127 Hours’, and song ‘If I Rise’ from the same film also found place in the final Oscar nominations — but lost to ‘The Social Network’ and ‘Toy Story 3’ respectively.

In this 89th Academy awards, various other top-notch films like La La Land, Moana and Rogue One: A Star Wars story will be competing under the same categories along with Rahman’s. Even though it didn't do great at the box office, the biopic has received great praise for its soundtrack not only in the Indian Cinema but in the international cinema also. The final nominations for the 89th Academy Awards will be announced on January 24 and the presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place February 26. Till then, we wish him All the very best for these Oscars and his upcoming musical ventures.
