2016 has been an awesome year for Malayalam movies! Mollywood has produced so many amazing movies this year which deserve the attention of every movie buff right away. Malayalis are inherently proud of their cinema. And they love to discuss and celebrate their films. This year has been a roller coaster ride for the Malayalam film lovers and their lofty artistic cinema.

Let's look at the top five films of the year, that made it to the must-watch list of every Malayalam movie buff.

1. Pulimurugan -
Mohanlal starrer Pulimurugan is the first Malayalam movie to have entered the 100 Crore club. This adventure film, which deals with the human-animal conflict, was released in October and has been running to packed houses since then. Pulimurugan movie tickets are still selling like hot cakes. The movie has also been released overseas, including the UK, Europe and UAE and getting good response from there also.

2. Oppam
Again a Mohanlal starrer, Oppam was one of the first Malayalam hits of the year. Mohanlal played the role of a blind man in this cat and mouse crime thriller. Directed by Priyadarshan, Oppam is to be watched especially for Mohanlal who has given an exceptional performance.

3. Jacobinite Swargarajyam
With this film, the Nivin Pauly and Vineeth combo has conquered the box office yet again. It has been one of the most successful movies of this year. This emotional Malayalam Drama movie which tells the story based of some NRIs won the hearts of many movie goers down South. The movie also got good response overseas.

4. Kali
Dulquer Salmaa's Kali explored the human anger psyche. The actor yet again proved with his exceptional performance in the film why he is considered one of the finest actors down South. The movie ‘Kali’, is a gripping tale of an angry young man, ‘Siddarth’(Dulquer Salman), and his lover-turned-wife Anjali (Sai Pallavi) who is destined to absorb the short-tempered nature of Siddharth.

5. King Liar
The film was one of the much-awaited Malayalam films of the year because almost after a decade, Siddique and Lal have reunited, and whenever the duo comes together, entertainment is guaranteed. Helmed solely for Dileep and his fans, the film is inundated with make-believe situations, silly faces, naive characters and cartoonish sequences. The movie collected good revenue at the box office.

So, if you haven't yet watched these Malayalam movies yet, it's time you watch them right away.
