America’s new sweetheart Taylor Castro is coming to Sri Lanka with the second leg of her World Virtual Tour, hosted by Live Nation and Book My Show. In an effort to reach fans during a time of social distancing while still giving audiences a personalised experience, Taylor Castro is launching an orchestrated live-streamed world tour that will reach various cities on different dates, including a virtual stop in Sri Lanka on Thursday, June 11th.
Taylor will perform songs from her repertoire including current single ‘Abyss’ and, the title track to her forthcoming album ‘Girl Afraid’.
If you know Taylor Castro, you already know that she composes and writes all her own music, lifting lyrics from what must surely be the pages of her diary. She has already made a name for herself in lyric-focused music circles with her previous release - ‘Girl, Afraid’. Girl, Afraid was a deeply personal track about the singer-songwriter’s struggles with OCD. Castro has now returned with a track about struggling to understand someone who remains a mystery.
A more upbeat release than ‘Girl, Afraid’, ‘Abyss’ makes use of summer-y synths and finger-clicking beats, building towards a chorus which breaks like an ocean wave, blending euphoric instrumentation with Castro’s startlingly perceptive lyrical content. In the song, Castro makes use of mythologically-inspired lyrics, comparing the boy in question to Zeus’ son, before remarking that “when you frown / You set fire to kingdoms,”
Poetic lyricism such as this is one sure-fire way Taylor Castro sets herself apart from the oversaturated market of pop music. The instrumentation indicates Castro as someone with a keen eye on the trends of the music industry, with her outstanding lyrics tucked away in a package disguised as the hit of the summer.
Taylor Castro is a talent caught right at the beginning of her journey, and anyone lucky enough to catch her live on her world virtual tour are fortunate to share it with her.
