Darshan Kumaar is a Bollywood actor who rose to prominence for his role as Priyanka Chopra's husband in the 2014 movie Mary Kom. He then went on to star in a pivotal role in the Anushka Sharma starrer NH10, which also gained the actor a lot of appreciation.
Early Life
Darshan was born in New Delhi, and then moved to Mumbai at the age of 24. After this, he joined the Sahej theatre group for five years and then worked with Motley Productions where he was trained under Naseeruddin Shah for ten years.
Movie Career
Darshan Kumaar's first movie was the Asoka in 2001, post which he was seen in the Salman Khan starrer Tere Naam, in which he played one of Salman's friends. After a small role in this movie, he was next cast as the male lead in director Omung Kumar's 2014 biographical sports film Mary Kom, as Priyanka Chopra's husband. His role as a supportive husband was highly appreciated, which made him a popular face in the industry. The film received positive reviews and was a commercial success.
After playing a supporting husband in Mary Kom, Darshan's next project was as the antagonist in the 2015 thriller film NH10. Anushka Sharma played the protagonist in the movie, whereas Darshan was seen as the leader of a gang in this movie, based on honor killings. The movie received huge critical acclaim and had a decent run at the box office. In the next year, the actor was once again cast by director Omung Kumar in the biographical drama Sarbjit, which starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda in the lead roles. Darshan portrayed the role of lawyer Awais Sheikh in the film. The movie received mixed to positive reviews and turned out to be a success at the box office.
Darshan's 2017 release includes the drama movie Mirza Juuliet, under the direction of Rajesh Ram Singh. He played the lead role in the movie opposite Piaa Bajpai and Priyanshu Chatterjee His other releases include the action-thriller movie Baaghi 2 (2018), the sports-drama movie Toofaan (2021) and Dhokha - Round D Corner (2022).
Television career
After starting his movie career in 2003, he debuted in the television industry in 2008 with the television soap opera Chotti Bahu that aired on Zee TV. He played the role of Purab in this serial. He then portrayed the role of Mridang Lall in the television drama Baba Aiso Varr Dhoondo in 2010. Darshan later played a supporting role of sage Shukracharya in the drama series Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, based on the legends of God Lord Shiva.
