EARLY LIFE
Jane Fonda is an American actress, writer and political activist. She is the daughter of actor Henry Fonda and socialite Frances Ford Seymour. Before getting into acting, Fonda was a model and appeared twice on the cover of Vogue. Jane caught the acting bug after appearing in a charity performance of The Country Girl with her father. She was also encouraged by Lee Strasberg and went on to join the Actors Studio. Jane made her screen debut in Tall Story (1960) where her performance received rave reviews consequently launching her career in Hollywood.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Post her debut, Jane starred in Walk On the Wild Side (1962) where she won a Golden Globe Award for her outstanding performance. Her portrayal of a schoolmarm turned outlaw in the film Cat Ballou (1965) is considered to be her breakthrough role. Jane also starred in several successful films like Any Wednesday (1966), Barefoot in the Park (1967) and They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969) which won her critical acclaim and her first Oscar nomination. Fonda won her first Academy Award for her performance in the murder mystery Klute (1971) and subsequently appeared in A Doll's House (1973), Steelyard Blues (1973), The Blue Bird (1976) and Fun With Dick and Jane (1977). Her outstanding performance in the film Julia (1977) was highly praised by the critics and won her several award nominations. Fonda again won an Academy Award for her performance in the film Coming Home (1978). Some of her other notable work include the films The China Syndrome (1979), The Electric Horseman (1979), On Golden Pond (1981), Nine to Five (1982) and Agnes of God (1985). She received rave reviews for her portrayal of an alcoholic murder suspect in the thriller The Morning After (1986). Jane also starred in the romantic drama Stanley and Iris (1990) alongside Robert De Niro, post which she took a break from her acting career. Fonda made returned to the big screen after 15 years with box office success Monster-in-Law (2005). She later starred in Georgia Rule (2007), Peace, Love and Misunderstanding (2012) and also portrayed First Lady Nancy Reagen in The Butler (2013). Jane was also the recipient of an honorary Palme d'Or and the AFI Life Achievement Award for her outstanding career in Hollywood. Jane has the film This Is Where I Leave You lined up.
