An Academy Award nominee John Debney is an American music composer who is best known for his composition Cutthroat Island (1995), which is much celebrated by the music critics as a notable example of swashbuckling film music and Mel Gibsons The Passion of the Christ (2004). Prior to starting his career in the film industry, Debney worked at the Copying department at Disney. His fellow worker, Buddy Baker asked him to play music at work that would be later used for different pavilions and rides at EPCOT Center. After his stint at Disney, Debney started to freelance with the TV composer Mike Post and simultaneously trained with the renowned composer Hoyt Curtin. He got his big break with Jetsons: The Movie (1990) and later composed for several TV films including Into the Badlands (1991), Hocus Pocus (1993), before eventually composing for a feature film with I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). His other notable film compositions include My Favorite Martian (1999), Spy Kids (2001), The Scorpion King (2002), The Pacifier (2005), Iron Man 2 (2010), Broken Horses (2015), Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie.
