One of the most popular filmmakers of the Sri Lankan film industry, Lal Priyadeva is a director, writer, and editor. Priyadewas association with films began at a very young age as his father was a film director. Owing to this, he also appeared as a child actor in one of his fathers film. Priyadeva began his career in the industry as a scriptwriter in 1987. The then-young writer with tremendous passion found success with his scripts and eventually ventured into the editing and assistant direction. He then worked with renowned filmmaker Yasapalitha: working as an assistant director on several of his films.
In 2001, he worked as an editor on the movie Hai Hui Babi Achchi. Five years later he wrote and directed the movie Ali Patiyo Oyai Mamai. Few of his other movie credits, as a director, include Kiwwada Nahi Nokiwwada Nahi (2011) and Appata Siri (2017).
