Award-winning filmmaker and screenwriter Nitin Kakkar is best known for his acclaimed debut movie Filmistaan (2012), which recounted the story of a wannabe actor who gets mistakenly kidnapped by terrorists. The comedy, which Nitin wrote and directed, was feted at the Kerala International Film Festival with a Silver Crow Pheasant for Best Debut Director; and also won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
This was followed by the tragicomedy Ram Singh Charlie (2016), which was screened at international film festivals around the globe. In 2018, Nitin wrote and directed the romantic comedy Mitron, which followed the story of an unlikely match between an idle youngster and an ambitious young girl. The movie, which was set against the backdrop of Gujarat, starred Jacky Bhagnani and Kritika Kamra in the lead roles. His 2020 release includes Jawaani Jaaneman.
