Filmmaker and screenwriter Ajay Gnanamuthu is best known for penning and directing the acclaimed Tamil horror thriller film Demonte Colony (2015), which was nominated for the SIIMA Award for Best Film that year. An alumnus of the prestigious Loyola college in Chennai, Ajay first came to public attention when he competed as one of the finalists in the short filmmaking reality show Naalaya Iyakunar in 2010.
Subsequently, the young filmmaker assisted director A.R. Murugadoss in the Suriya starrer 7aum Arivu (2011) and Vijay starrer Thuppakki (2012), before eventually making his feature film directorial debut with Demonte Colony (2015). Following the critical and commercial success of his first film, Ajay made his sophomore outing as a director with the Kollywood thriller Imaikkaa Nodigal (2018), which starred Nayanthara, Atharvaa Murali and Anurag Kashyap in central roles.
