A popular Sri Lankan actor during the 1970s and 1980s, Ravindra Randeniya shot to fame with his performance in the 1972 film Desa Nisa, under the direction of Lester James Peries. He has won the Sarasaviya Award for Best Actor for several movies like Dadayama, Maya, Sandakada Pahana and Sri Medura. A few of his other prominent movies include One Shot, Sewwandi, Kusa Pabha, Weerawarna and Paththini. His 2017 release includes the Sinhala drama film Nimnayaka Hudekalawa, under the direction of Boodee Keerthisena, starring Saumya Liyanage and Sangeetha Weeraratne in the lead roles. He is also a politician who was elected to Sri Lanka Parliament for United National Party, where he served as a member from 2001 to 2004.
