Sangeetha Weeraratne is a multi-award-winning Sri Lankan actress and producer who made her acting debut with Roy de Silva's It's a Matter of Time in 1990 where she was cast opposite Sri Lankan star Kamal Addararachchi. Being the daughter of celebrated cinematographer Timothy Weeraratne, Sangeetha knew what goes on behind the camera. She rose to fame when she starred opposite Kamal Addararachchi for a second time as Deepthi in H.D. Premaratne's Saptha Kanya (1993). The movie fetched her the Sarasaviya Best Newcomer Award for that year. Sangeetha won the Sarasaviya Award for Best Actress in Nomiyena Minisun (1994) and again in 2001 for her role as the lead protagonist, Guneris' wife in Aswesuma. She was adjudged the Sarasaviya Most Popular Actress for three consecutive years from 200103. She made her debut as a producer with Sewwandi (2006). She starred in the lead role opposite Kamal Addararachchi in the war drama. Sangeetha married Sri Lankan businessman, Roshantha Kariyapperuma in 2002.
