EARLY LIFE :
Stephen Arthur Frears is an English film director born in Leicester, England. He completed his schooling at Gresham's School and studied law at Trinity College, Cambridge.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS :
After his graduation, Frears worked in the films Morgan! (1966) and if....(1968) as an assistant director. He was then seen in the films like The Burning (1967), Gumshoe (1971), The Hit (1984), My Beautiful Laundrette (1985), Prick Up Your Ears (1987). Stephen's filmography includes Sammy and Rosie Get Laid (1987), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), The Grifters (1990), Hero (1992) and The Snapper (1993). He has several films to his credit like Mary Reilly (1996), The Van (1996), The Hi-Lo Country (1998), High Fidelity (2000), Dirty Pretty Things (2002) and Mrs Henderson Presents (2005). He was recently seen in The Queen (2006), Cheri (2009), Tamara Drewe (2010), Lay the Favorite (2012) and Philomena (2013). He has films like The Program (2016) and Florence Foster Jenkins (2016), lined up.
AWARDS :
- Frears was awarded with Guild Film Award - Gold for Dangerous Liaisons (1988).
- Won Goya Award for Best European Film for The Snapper in 1995.
