Regarded as one of the best stunt directors of the modern era of Sri Lankan cinema, Ganwari Teddy Vidyalankara has worked on more than 500 films across several languages including Sinhala, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and English. Credited to introduce the concept of group stunts in Sri Lankan cinema, Vidyalankara was born in Negombo, Sri Lanka, and graduated from the Carey College, Colombo. At a very young age, he developed an interest in films of Bruce Lee and started practicing boxing, gymnastics and other freestyle martial arts.
It was by chance that Vidyalankara met one of the oldest stuntmen of the Sri Lankan industry, Dayananda Rodrigo at a party organized by his friend Shantha Kulatunga. Later, in 1974 Rodrigo asked Vidyalankara to work as a stuntman in the movie Jeevana Ganga. Four years later he went to make his debut as a stunt coordinator with the movie Asha Dasin. Vidyalankara has since not just then worked on several successful films in Sri Lankan Cinema but has also contributed to several Hindi, English, Pakistani, and Tamil language movies as well.
Some of his movie credits include Water (2005), Midnights Children (2012), Kalpanthe Sihinayak (2014), Paththini (2016), and Maya 3D (2016). As an actor, he has appeared in movies such as A Common Man (2012), Jism 2 (2012), and Madras Cafe (2013). His 2017 release includes the movie Appata Siri directed by Lal Priyadeva.
