One of the stalwarts of the Sri Lankan film industry, Udayakantha Warnasuriya is a filmmaker, writer and producer, who made his directorial debut in 1997 with the drama, Mahameara Usata. Over the years he has wrote and directed several well received movies like Gini Avi Saha Gini Keli (1998), Bahu Baarya (1999), Raajya Sewaya Pinisai (2000), Bahubuthayo (2001), Rosa Wasanthe (2001), Yakada Pihatu (2003), Le Kiri Kandulu (2003), Randiya Dahara (2004), Hiripoda Wassa (2006), Ran Kevita (2007), Asai Man Piyabanna (2007), Challenges (2011), Ran Kewita 2 (2013), Kosthapal Punyasoma (2014), and Gindari: Bahubuthayo 2 (2015). Recently Warnasuriya has directed the horror movie, Bandhanaya (2017) and the romantic drama, Wassanaye Sanda (2017). Apart from directing movies, Warnasuriya has also directed teledramas like Sagaraya Parada, Diya Suliya and Eka Gei Kurullo. In 2018 Warnasuriya directed the drama, Joyful Journeys (2016). The cast includes Ramani Alakolange, Tissa Bandaranayake, Sarath Chandrasiri, Nalin Pradeep Udawela, Sudam Katukitule, Udeni Chandrasiri and Dharmapriya Dias in important roles.
