Having started performing since his school days, Wimal Kumara de Costa, an alumnus of Kelaniya Gurukula Vidyalaya, was Sri Lankas most noteworthy actors, remembered for his character roles. His first stage performance was Godo Enakath, following which he went on to be a part of plays like Dunna Dunna Gamuwe, Hitha Hondha Ammandi, Puttu, Kawuruth Enney Nahay Kora Saha Andhaya and Nattukarayo. Before making his movie debut, de Costa was seen in Dharmasena Pathiraja's short film titled Sathuro. He then made his movie debut in Pathirajas Ves Gaththo in 1970 and since then he appeared in over 100 movies in a career spanning close to five decades. The veteran actor passed away in 2016 owing to respiratory difficulties. He had movies like Ahas Gauwa, Eya Dan Loku Lamayek, Bambaru Awith, Ara Soyza, Age Wairaya, Kolompoor, Hai Hui Babi Achchi, Ai Oba Thaniwela, Kauda Machan Alice, Supiri Andare, and Lantin Singho to his credit.
